Essendene Care Home… Receive gifts of Twiddlemuffs
Four members of Whitley WI visited the ladies and gents in the home in mid November.
Enid (shown in the first photo) told us she was born in Hartford and moved to Weaverham when she married.
In her own words she said she was a Night Inspector over aircraft which were the main fighter planes, to see they were fit for purpose at both Stretton and Burtonwood Airports
Mrs Enid Jackson with (from the left): Lorna Bettles, Enid, Carol Brocklehurst the Care Home Owner and Joan Blackshaw WI President.
Resident Gwen Green used to make clothes and embroidered cloths. She made all the dresses without patterns. She was born in Camberley and married a soldier from The North whom she met when serving cups of tea to the soldiers.
Another Resident Eric Bennion over 90 said he was a bus driver. There were 86 buses in Northwich. He took people to work and children to school for years.
He had a beautiful photo of the ‘Laburnum Arch at Bodnant’ where he said “you step out of life into a different world”. He was always smiling and when Joan commented he said “Yes a Cheshire Grin” and laughed.
The afternoon was enjoyed by all with gifts gratefully received.
