Our members were greeted at the door with a warm Welsh welcome from Annette, suitably attired in her Welsh costume and were given A Welsh Quiz to complete during the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music from Welsh Male Voice Choirs and a Welsh harp set the scene and our members contributed to a beautiful display of daffodils \u2013 only just out in our gardens this year. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our Art group meeting in February had a Welsh theme, and some of their work was also displayed. After our usual business members were told about our planned May outing to Chester by coach, with a 2 hr boat trip on the River Dee with refreshments and a licensed bar available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jean W took us on a tour of 20 different areas of Wales, showing us pictures from the more familiar North Wales coast and followed the coast around West and South Wales, before stopping for a ‘City Break’ in Cardiff. We travelled back through mid Wales to the Llangollen area. A trip down memory lane for some, new areas to visit for others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joan B gave us some background to the history of Wales \u2013 telling us about ‘Llewlyn the Great’, the first true Prince of Wales, and her ‘namesake’ Princess Joan of Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At our refreshment break, members were served with home-made Welsh Cakes and Bara Brith, and also our Birthday Cake, courtesy of Ann O’B<\/p>\n<\/div>

Chris J did a presentation about the symbolism of Welsh Lovespoons – she showed us a traditional one and also a contemporary one that she had made and explained the meaning of them<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our evening was completed by a brief lesson in Welsh, with some useful phrases and some humour as members attempted the pronunciation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
