April 2023 Main Meeting – DIY surgery

Melanie welcomed 36 members and 2 visitors to the meeting, and reported the sad news of the death of Dorothy Thompson – a long standing member of Whitley WI. She will be missed in many ways, including her friendly face on the Welcome Desk or raffle and her wonderful flower arrangements. We were asked to remember her as we sang Jerusalem. We were delighted to congratulate our Darts Team who have had a very successful year. They won the North Cheshire Group Trophy, and also came second in their group in the County Darts championship. Whitley winners of the CFWI Jigsaw race

CFWI launched their ‘Jigsaw Race’ competition this March. Each team of 4 was given a 500 piece jigsaw with a time limit of 90 mins to complete it. The winner was the first to complete their puzzle, or the team with least pieces left at the end of the 90 minutes. Our team of Ann, Annette, Jean and Susan were the overall winners, completing their jigsaw with 19 minutes to spare and the only team to finish within the 90 minutes. March Craft Group

This month Pat G shared her skills in the art of ‘Decoupage’ . This proved very popular, with 14 members attending. See the subgroup page for more pictures and information

March Walking and Garden groups

March Book Club

At our March meeting Susan L led the discussion on The Marlow Murder Club by Richard Thorogood (Writer of ‘Death in Paradise’) Members found it light and entertaining, but without much depth. They gave it an average score of 7 – for further information look on the subgroups page.

March 2023 Main Meeting – A Welsh Evening

Our members were greeted at the door with a warm Welsh welcome from Annette, suitably attired in her Welsh costume and were given A Welsh Quiz to complete during the evening. Music from Welsh Male Voice Choirs and a Welsh harp set the scene and our members contributed to a beautiful display of daffodils – only just out in our gardens this year. February Art Group

12 members of our Art Group met with a theme of ‘Daffodils’ or all things Welsh – an early taste of Spring and also to fit in with the ‘Welsh’ theme at our main March meeting. We had lots of daffodils, a leek, and an amazing Welsh dragon – see the subgroup page for more information and pictures
